I Will Be What I Believe Dance Routine Chorus
This simple dance routine is such a fun way to focus just on the chorus this song in singing time! Before introducing any dance steps, review the chorus of I Will Be What I Believe with this flip chart or sing through the entire song.
You’ll want a little bit of room for this dance routine, so I recommend having your children step out from their seats a bit. You may even want to move some chairs if possible.
Ask: “Who’s ready to dance?” This is sure to get an energetic response. Even if you have kids who don’t like to dance, this routine is simple enough for everyone to enjoy!
Let’s start by learning a few moves. Post the first page of the printable pattern on the board. Try the first two actions by stepping out with one foot, then stepping with your other foot in the same direction. Tap your foot each time you take a step. This is the first action!
Try the next two actions by spinning in a circle, followed by two hand claps. These first four actions will be used for the first half of the chorus.
You may want to pause here and try the first two lines with music! This is a great way to get in lots of practice. Try the first 4 actions a few times while singing through the first two lines of the chorus.
Then, introduce the actions for the last two lines. For the first action, simply kick out one foot at a time. Each time you kick a foot, snap your fingers! Finish with a big spin.
Do you think we can try the entire pattern? Let’s do it! Sing through the entire chorus a few times while practicing this fun dance routine together.
Dance Routine Outline:
To help you get a good feel for this pattern, I’ve outlined the entire dance routine below. Be sure to grab the printable visuals for some extra helps, as well as check out my demo video below!
STEP-TAP 4X (RIGHT): We’ll be using this simple step-tap move for the first line of the chorus. For this move, start by taking a step to the side with your right foot. Then, bring your left foot over and tap your foot. You’ll do 4 big steps.
In the example below, I’ve bolded each word that lands on a big step.
*I’ll have faith like brother Joseph and the strength of the pioneers.”
STEP-TAP 4X (LEFT): This movement is exactly the same as above, except you’ll be moving to the left this time.
*”I’ll be brave as a stripling warrior and like Nephi persevere.”
SPIN: This action is super simple! Just turn all the way around.
*”I will spread God’s love to all I know”
CLAP 2X: Another simple one! Clap your hands twice while singing the words, “And serve.”
SNAP + KICK 4X: For this action, you’ll be doing a combination of snapping your fingers and kicking your feet. Alternate feet for each kick and snap your fingers each time you kick your foot out.
In the example below, I’ve bolded each word that falls on a kick.
*”I will plead with my Father on my knees: I will be“
SPIN: Another quick spin! Use this dance move while singing the last word, “Believe.”
Extension Activities:
- Want to try adding actions to the verse too? The first page of the dance pattern fits well with the verse too! Or try adding your own moves!
- Mix up the order of the dance moves by replacing one of the step taps with kicks & snaps! You can also speed up the step-taps and repeat this movement twice before moving on to the next actions.
- Split up the class into two groups. Have each group learn half the routine. Then, have them teach each other! This is such a great way to reinforce what they’ve learned!
