I can’t think of a better song that I Will Follow God’s Plan to teach the children about the Plan of Salvation!! But don’t worry, I know this isn’t supposed to be sharing time so the focus is ALL on the song lyrics, with a subtle tie-in to the Plan of Salvation and tons of singing as you build up the lyrics line-by-line.

I Will Follow God’s Plan of Salvation
How to Play:
Sing through I Will Follow God’s Plan (flipchart here!) once before introducing this activity.
Bring out a gift with the gift tag “Life is a Gift”. Tuck all the other pieces inside the gift bag or box.
Ask a child to come up and have them pick out the “plan” picture from the gift bag. Add it to the board and sing the first 2 lines of the song. Then, tell the children we’ll use this map to help us put the rest of the pieces in the correct order.
Have another child come up and dig through the gift bag to find the next item in order. Add it to the board at the very top and add that line of the song singing from the beginning to that point. Keep going adding a piece and adding a line of the song. You’ll get in TONS of repetition in a fun way.
Briefly share a testimony about our life having a very real and specific purpose and how having that knowledge can help the children in their lives to bring comfort, strength, direction, etc. Not everyone knows the answers to those important life questions of why we are here, where are we going, and what is our purpose.
Extension Activities:
- Send home the half page “plan” for the kids to practice the song at home!
- Use the blank Plan of Salvation pages to teach an interactive lesson on the plan of salvation where the kids can add in
- Print the plan of salvation pieces as well and paste them on the back (or leave them separate). After you’ve made it all the way through the song, flip over the pieces to reveal Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness. Or, put those pieces up beside the lyrics ones to show the progression through the song and through our spiritual & life journey.
- Flip over the words from lyrics to PlaAssign the kids into 2 groups by shape – one group for lines and one group for the rest of the song. They’ll sing only their lines of the song and hum the alternate parts.
