I’m excited for this Jesus Has Risen Partner Rhythm Sticks activity! You’ll use your rhythm sticks for an action, then pass to a partner, and they’ll use them for an action – and continue in that pattern throughout the song.
It’s a perfect way to add in interaction with their peers which is great for some kiddos individual learning styles and add movement that helps to bring the specific lyrics alive in a fun and meaningful way!

Jesus Has Risen Partner Rhythm Sticks
How to Play:
Sing through Jesus Has Risen flip chart once before introducing this activity.
Post the pattern sequence cards up on the board. Have one helper up to demonstrate the pattern with. Sing through the song as you show the pattern.
Do you think you can do that two? Find a partner! Use a teacher or rearrange the kiddos on the end that may not have a partner.
Sing through Jesus Has Risen together using this partner rhythm sticks pattern.
Switch to the 2nd partner starting the sequence (the rhythm sticks will end in their hand already.
Switch partners and sing through the song two more times with the pattern.
Then, invite a few children to come up front and show off the sequence as everyone sing through the song again with the children leading.
Rhythm Sticks Pattern:
- Partner 1: Raise the rhythm stick up high.
- Partner 1: Roll the rhythm stick to partner 2.
- Partner 2: Two soft taps on your heart with the rhythm stick.
- Partner 2: Roll the rhythm stick to partner 1.
- Partner 1: Conduct music drawing a triangle in the air.
- Partner 1: Roll the rhythm stick to partner 2.
- Partner 2: Raise the rhythm stick up high.
- Partner 2: Roll the rhythm stick to partner 1.
- Partner 1: Raise the rhythm stick up high.
- Partner 1: Roll the rhythm stick to partner 2.
*Begin again with partner 2 as the first partner!
Extension Activities:
- Adapt the activity to be a single person activity. Just roll from your right hand to your left or left hand to your right follow the pattern cards.
- Try singing on double speed! Can you keep up with the actions?
- Let the children come up with new actions for one of the lines, such as “Jesus has risen.”
