The lyrics of Did Jesus Really Live Again are such a wonderful testimony of the Savior’s resurrection. When I taught this song in primary, I wanted to teach all 3 verses because they create such a beautiful image of Christ.
Since this song is a bit longer, it can be a little tricky to sing! This activity takes away the stress of singing all the correct words and just focusing on the melody in a fun way.
The vowel sounds pattern for this song has a sound for every syllable! This makes the pattern especially simple to follow. Be sure to grab the printable later in this post that contains a color guide for each syllable and outlines the pattern for all 3 verses.
Start by singing all 3 verses of Did Jesus Really Live Again lyrics.
Before showing the pattern, have the kids practice singing the vowel sounds out loud. Try singing, “EEE” “Ooh” “Aaah.”
Explain that you’ll be focusing on listening to the music and practicing the notes and melody of the song.
Put up the poster for the first two verses. Every syllable will have a sound, so start by singing just a line or two of the song with the vowel songs. Then, try singing just the first verse together slowly with the vowel sounds.
Once you have repeated the first two verses a few times, try the third verse! If you’re feeling ready for a new challenge, try singing the entire song with the vowel sounds!

Extension Activities:
- For a challenge, try displaying the colors only and not the sound! Have the key on the board and explain what sound corresponds with each color. Then, draw short lines on the board representing each syllable. Draw each line in the color that corresponds with the sound you want the kids to sing!
- Choose 2-3 key words in the song. Sing a different vowel sound for each key word while you review!
- Have the kids mix up the pattern! Cut out each “OOH” and “AAH” individually and put all the strips of paper on the board. Have the kids arrange the vowel sounds in any order they’d like!
- Pair an action with each syllable! For example, you could touch your nose while singing “OOH” and pat your head when you sing “AAH.”
