Claire was just finishing her homework when she heard her mom call from downstairs, “Time for family prayer!” Every night, Claire’s family gathered in the living room to pray together.
*Sing: “I see my mother kneeling with our family each day.”
Claire quickly raced her brothers down the stairs and made it just in time for a big hug from mom. “How was your day?” Mom asked. “Can you think of something or someone we can pray for tonight?
*Sing: “I hear the words she whispers as she bows her head to pray.”
Extension Activities:
- Choose a reader! Have one child come up and read the story. If they are really brave, have them sing too! Otherwise, pause and sing with them. Or, choose 2-3 readers and take turns reading each paragraph.
- Act it out! Have 4 volunteers come up – one person to play Claire, two actors for Mom & Dad, and one person to play Claire’s brother, Colby.
- Cut out the story into strips with one paragraph and one song line each. Number each paragraph and divide the strips between classes. Call out one number at a time, and have a spokesperson read the paragraph. Then, have each class sing the lyrics that correlate with their section.
- Continue the song story into the 2nd and 3rd verse! Or just teach one of the other verses with a specific song story for each verse.
