For this activity, I’ve created 8 service cards with simple ways that children can serve in their families. Each card also includes a simple fun singing challenge! As you review this song together, share these ideas and try fun, new ways to sing this song!
At the beginning of singing time, start by singing through one verse of Love is Spoken Here. If you don’t already have a copy of our Love is Spoekn Here flip chart for this song, you’ll definitely want one! It’s super easy to follow and helps keep everyone on track.
What are some ways we can bring more love into our homes? Invite a few children to share their ideas.
Then, choose a volunteer to come up and pick one service card and read it to the class. For example, one way we can serve in our home is by sharing toys!
For a simple singing challenge, grab a small item from the room and pass it to one child. Have each child pass on the object until the music stops!
Now, let’s pick a new card! Choose another volunteer to come up and read one service idea along with the singing challenge.
Another way we can serve in our families is by working together! Everyone grab a partner. Sway your arms back and forth while holding hands for a simple partner movement idea.
Can you get through all 8 service ideas before the end of singing time? You’ll have to move quickly!
4 Service Ideas & Challenges:
There are SO many simple ways to serve and invite the Holy Ghost into our homes. Here are just a few ideas. Feel free to add your own to the list or see what the kids come up with!
Pair each of these 4 service ideas below with a unique singing challenge! The singing challenges are not absolutely essential, but they definitely add an extra element of fun to the activity!
- Bake Cookies – Pat your head while rubbing your tummy
- Share Toys – Pass around an object as you sing
- Read a Book – Hide the Lyrics! See if you can sing it memorized
- Play a Board Game – Team Singing (Point to one class at a time to sing)
Extension Activities:
- On the back of each service card, write one phrase of the song. Divide the cards between classes and have each class sing only their assigned lines! Then, pass your cards clockwise and sing a new line.
- Draw a big house in the middle of the board. Have the children come up and write or draw ways to bring love into their homes and families.
- Hide the service cards around the room. Each time you sing through a song, choose a helper to find and read one of the service cards.
- Play a game of Pictionary! Have one child come up to the front of the room. Show them one of the cards and have them draw a picture. Guess the service!
