A few years ago I read this fantastic article on how long it takes to read the Bible, and specifically the Old Testament. Did you know you can read the entire Old Testament in about an hour per week? When you look at it like that, it’s very attainable!
I was inspired by that article to challenge myself along with my family and youth in my ward to read the entire Old Testament this year. Even if you can’t make it through every chapter and verse, you can use this reading bookmark to track your readings as you follow along with the selected chapters and passages for the Old Testament Come, Follow Me year!
Old Testament Reading Chart
You’ll love this printable colorful and fun Old Testament reading chart! It helps break down your readings by book of scripture in a clear and easy to read format on a double-sided bookmark.
This would also be a perfect printable Seminary New Testament Reading Chart! I made a large 5-page option that can be printed and hung in the Seminary classroom and marked off as a group as you read through the scriptures.
Using This Reading Chart:
Each color represents one Old Testament book of scriptures to help you easily distinguish each change in book. Each row has 10 circles to represent 10 chapters of the respective book. So, for example, Psalms has 150 circles (15 rows of 10) and Joshua has 24 circles for 24 chapters. Mark off each chapter as you read your way through the Old Testament.
Reading Goal:
The Old Testament will take the average reader around 57 hours. That means, to complete the entire Old Testament in one year you will need to spend at least an hour per week reading, or just 10-15 minutes per day. I have included an estimated reading time per book to help you plan out your year. This is a very rough breakdown by moth that groups the books in order.
You can also simply follow along with the Come, Follow Me suggested readings and mark of your progress as you read the selected passages that go with each weekly reading and then fill in when you have extra time.
Old Testament Reading Plan
To help you make your own Old Testament Reading Plan for this year, here’s a helpful breakdown with approximately how long it will take to read each book with a suggested month to read from each of the books of the Old Testament. Some will naturally need to overflow into the following month, but this is a rough schedule to help you keep up your pacing:
