Holy Places Missing Words
Sing through Holy Places with this Flip Chart once before introducing the missing words activity.
Post the missing words page(s) up on the board that apply to the verse you will be teaching. Tell the children that some of your words went missing and you need their help to bring them back.

Tell the children to listen closely as you sing through the song to try to spot any of the missing words. Sing through the first verse, pausing before the chorus. Ask the children to raise their hand and tell you what words they heard that were missing. Do they know where they go? Fill in 2-4 words. Write them in and then sing through the verse again until you’ve filled in all of the missing words.
Instead, you can hand out 1-2 pens before you begin singing and invite the children to fill in one missing word, then pass the pen off to someone else. Tell them they only have until you pause singing to add their words.
When you’ve finished the first verse, you can move on to the chorus or additional verses. Then sing through the whole song with all your filled in words.
Extension Activities:
- You can use the word strips and put them all over the board to help the children have a reference like a word bank to pick from. This can be a good way to use this activity if you’re just getting started learning this song and you think the children may need a little extra help. These word strips can also be hidden around the room or under the children’s chairs and be brought up and put in order.
- For a harder challenge, bring up the scrambled word strips. Have the children find the missing word and unscramble it! This is a fun challenge for an older Primary group.

- Use this missing word activity as an envelope challenge. Divide your Primary into small groups (3-5 kids is ideal, or by class). Let each group work the missing words puzzle at the same time as you sing through the song. How many words can they fill in before the song ends? Continue to sing until all groups are finished.
- Sing only the typed out words, and skip all of the missing words. The kids will silently sing the missing words in their head during the challenge which is great for long-term memory building. Then, try singing ONLY the missing words! Can you keep up with this challenge and remember all the words?
- Add an action such as clap, pat, stomp, stand and sit, or whatever your group would like to choose as you sing each of the missing words.
