With the new year, and much shorter times, my Primary has decided to try to streamline the transition between Junior and Senior Primary as much as possible.
One simple change we’ve made is to have all the kids exit from one door and enter from another. This lets the classes be able to start entering while the other classes are leaving out the far door.
To help with this change, I made some cute and simple Primary Room exit and enter signs to help direct traffic!
Primary Room Exit and Enter Signs
I printed out these signs with one for each side of the door. One side of the door will welcome the children to enter (or exit) and the other side of the door will have an arrow sign directing them to please use the other door to enter (or exit).
For example, the entrance sign is in the door closest to the outside building doors in our Primary room.
There is much more room in this space outside the Primary room for the Senior classes to wait during their transition time before heading into the Primary room.
On the back side of that same door, there is a sign directing those inside the Primary room to use the far door to exit the room.
My signs help indicate that this is the entrance door and please head to the right to find the exit door. There is also an option for left facing arrows, should your doors be arranged differently than ours. 🙂
We are still working out the kinks to make it as quick as possible for the Senior Primary to shuffle into the Primary room as the Junior’s exit, but it’s already helped a ton after my first week using the signs!
We forgot to tell the Senior’s to come in, so I’ve since told the teachers that as soon as they see kiddos heading out of the far exit door that leads into the hallway, that’s their cue to come on in.
We’ll also have the pianist playing music and jump right in with a song, as soon as we can to help signal the start of Primary.
It took us about 3 minutes last week to transition the Junior Primary out and settle in the Senior Primary. I’m hoping to get that down to closer to a minute, so we can get as much singing time as possible!

I’ve uploaded these printable signs as a PDF, as well, but highly recommend you download the individual images as they’ll print further to the edge and look much crisper and better than the PDF allows.
Here’s the PDF Primary Room Entrance Signs, for convenience for those that might not be able to access the images.
