If you’re looking to get a head start on summer singing time, you’re in the right place. I’ll use this Seek the Lord Early Crossword Puzzle to teach my August song pick for the Old Testament! It’s a perfect activity for reviewing the song.
**22 Seek the Lord Early Singing Time Ideas Here**

This year, I’ve been working on getting some ideas prepped ahead of the month so I’m ready to go with a few ideas for singing time. If you’re new to our site, we organize our activities into 8 different learning styles.
Recently, we created this Music Learning Styles by Song Type Chart to help fellow singing time choristers prep for singing time. Today’s crossword puzzle activity falls under the word games category, but it can be great for your logical thinkers too!
I am excited to teach Seek the Lord Early this year in primary. Since I’ll be teaching this song in August, I know it will be a busy time of the year. This crossword puzzle activity is an excellent way to introduce or review Seek the Lord Early this month!
For this activity, I’ll be creating a simple crossword puzzle. You can solve this crossword puzzle before, during, or after singing!
Seek the Lord Early Crossword Puzzle Activity

This crossword puzzle activity is exactly what it sounds like: a fun puzzle! For this activity, I’ll be creating a simple crossword puzzle with words from the song. I’ll be thinking about some clues that can help children figure out the word that goes in the puzzle.
I chose 10 words to create my crossword puzzle: Father, Youth, Prayer, Commandments, Truth, Scriptures, Prophet, Search, Early, Obey.

Next, I thought of some simple clues that would help kids think of these words.
Keep in mind that some of these clues could work for multiple words. It might be helpful to remind the children that all the words in the crossword puzzle are from the song Seek the Lord Early (lyrics here).

Here’s what I came up with:
DOWN:
1. Opposite of late (Early)
2. God’s mouthpiece (Prophet)
3. To find (Search)
4. To follow or listen (Obey)
5. Holy books (Scripture)
ACROSS:
6. Talk to heaven (Prayer)
7. God’s Laws (Commandments)
8. Correct knowledge (Truth)
9. Dad (Father)
10. Still young (Youth)

How to Play:
Print out our Seek the Lord Early crossword puzzle (below) or copy our idea and use a big poster board!
At the beginning of primary, start by reviewing the words to song using this Seek the Lord Early flipchart.

After singing, introduce the activity by taping the crossword puzzle to the board. You can hide the clues or keep them on the board.
Each time you sing through a verse, give one clue and have the kids think of the word. Let one of them fill it in on the poster!

Have children take turns coming up and filling in the crossword puzzle.
Continue giving clues until you’ve completed the entire puzzle!
This activity can be a great way to introduce the song too! If you haven’t started teaching the song yet, start by taping the crossword on the board. Give the children an opportunity to look at the puzzle and try to figure out which song the puzzle is.
Since they likely won’t figure it out right away, you can start giving clues from the crossword and having them fill it in. Once they have some words in the puzzle, keep letting them guess the song. Then, begin teaching the song!

Extension Ideas:
- Give each class a crossword puzzle. Have each class work through the puzzle together while they sing.
- After you solve the crossword puzzle, make each word in the puzzle a “Secret word.” When you come to that word in the song, clap or hum instead of singing the word.
- Add a hand action to match the keyword! Use the action instead of singing the word.
- Have the kids color in a picture in the margins for each keyword.
