How to Play Seek the Lord Early Find His Words

Hide the printable words cards around the Primary room.

Sing through Seek the Lord Early with our flip chart once before introducing this activity.

Exclaim excitedly to the children – “Did you hear all the places we can find the Lord?” What are some of the words you heard? (Take 2 or 3 responses).

We can seek the Lord:

  • By seeking truth
  • In the scriptures
  • Through prayer
  • The Prophet’s words
  • By keeping the commandments
  • In feeling his love

I found 6 ways and I’ve hidden them around the room. Can you help me find them?

Ask for one helper to seek for the words while you sing through the song. If they find it quickly, just keep singing until you finish the verse.

Ask the children “How can we find the lord _______?” You can find phrasing help in the list of the words above.

Continue seeking for the hidden words until the helpers have found all 6 words. You’ve now sang through the song 7 times and added tons of meaning by pulling out keywords from the song.

End with a simple testimony that the Lord wants us to seek him daily and will speak to us and show us His love in any and every way that he can!

3 Additional Fun Ways to Play
Seek the Lord Early Find His Words

Each of the ideas listed in the second group are written in order of the cards so you can easily match them to the wordstrip if you’d like to use any of these fun alternate ideas!

Actions: Add an action to each word you find for subsequent times singing through the song!

Action Ideas: point to your head, open your two hands formed like a book, fold your arms, cup your mouth, stomp 3 times (on the 3-syllables), cross your arms and hug them close to your chest.

Hidden Objects: Bring in object to hide rather than just the word strips! You can put the word strip hidden inside the object or taped to the front to help identify it, if you choose. Or, for a challenge in Senior Primary, hide the object then have them match from the word strips up on a table which one the object represents.

Object ideas – Books or a lamp, scriptures, a pillow (does anyone else do this!?), picture of a prophet, the articles of faith or a poster board commandments, and a stuffed animal or heart shaped object.

Skip Sing: Skip singing each of the words that you’ve found. You could clap or stomp instead or just sing them silently. For a fun twist, sing each with a different singing style!

Singing Style Ideas:  Very proper (and sit up straight!), underwater, whisper, loud!, tongue out, and opera (exaggerated an extra high note!).
