How many GREEN things do you think you can find around your house? This cute St. Patrick’s Day Seeing Green activity is a great visual primary activity to review a bunch of different primary songs!
This St. Patrick’s Day themed activity is pretty simple! Just find as many GREEN things as you can and bring them to primary. Attach a primary song to each item and have the children uncover all the green items during singing time!
St. Patrick’s Day: Seeing Green!
This St. Patrick’s Day activity is such a fun way to bring in a festive activity that low-prep & low-stress! You may be shocked how many green things you can find in your house! When I started looking around for things that are green, I found green folders, green colored pencils, green sweaters. Even my shampoo is green!
You can use any kind of household items for this activity. If you’re looking for a few more green items, I have a printable later in this post that has pictures of green things. There are pictures of green apples, green trees, green grasshoppers, and more! Green, Green, GREEN! 😉
Start by collecting 8-10 green items! If you get creative, you can probably find most these items in your home without having to run to the store.
Choose some primary songs you want to review. If you choose 6-8 songs, you can repeat a few during primary. I’ll be using the songs we’ve learned so far this year plus a few wiggle songs just for fun! If you want to use some “festive” songs, you can find 45 LDS St. Patrick’s Day Primary Songs here!
On the back of each item, write the name of one of the primary songs you want to review. Place your items on a large tray and cover them before primary. Set them on the table and see if the kids can guess what is hiding underneath the sheet.
Then, uncover the sheet and reveal all the GREEN things! You can act puzzled and ask the kids why everything on the sheet turned green. Hopefully they will guess “St. Patrick’s Day!”
Have the kids come up and choose one item at a time. When they come up to choose an item, have them turn the item over to reveal the song!
Continue choosing green items until you’ve taken all the items off the tray. If you want to add some extra fun to this activity, try using one of our extension ideas below!
Ideas for GREEN Items to Bring:
- Cell Phone Case
- Play Doh
- Body Wash/Soap/Lotion
- Water Bottle
- Colored Pencil
- Bell Pepper
- Toy Dinosaur
What other things can you think to add to the list?
- For a fun twist, hide all the green items around the primary room! Bring in the cookie sheet covered with a towel or blanket. When you uncover the sheet and find it blank, you can say something like, “Oh no! The leprechauns must have stolen and hidden all the items! Can you help me find them?” You could also write a little note from the leprechauns giving clues about where the items are hidden. Super fun!
- Try to have the children spot all the green things in the room! You don’t have to bring anything extra for this version. Just make sure there are a few green things in the primary room they can spot. When they find an item, have them choose a primary song to sing!
- Use this activity with whatever primary song you are working on this month! Instead of writing song titles on the back of each item, write down different silly ways to sing the song. You could have the kids hop on one foot or spin around while they sing! This Lucky Charms Ways to Sing Review has lots of cute ideas!
