Today, I have 3 fun puzzles to share with you for singing time! This fun Testimony Hymn Word Puzzles activity has 3 different puzzles to use while you review this song in singing time this month!
This fun word game (see all our word games here!) includes a combination of some of my favorite singing time activities! In this post, you’ll find a simple fill-in-the-blank puzzle, a fun unscramble the letters puzzle, and a challenging rearrange-the-lyrics puzzle!

How to Play: Testimony Hymn Word Puzzles
I’m so excited to share these word puzzles with you! If you find it difficult to plan a singing time activity that works for both your younger and older kids, I totally hear you!
That’s why I’ve created 3 different word puzzle games with 3 levels of difficulty so that you can use this activity for both Junior and Senior primary!
This activity was especially created to use with the first verse of the song but can be easily adapted to review any of the 4 verses! Start by singing through the first verse of the song with our Testimony Flip Chart.
I’ve included instructions for all 3 puzzles below, as well as a printable outline to help you prep for this activity! I’d love to hear which puzzle(s) you’ll be using in primary this week!
#1: EASY PUZZLE: Words + Pictures
- For this version, print out word strips with one word missing from each phrase of the song. Post these word strips on one side of the board. On the other side of the board, post simple pictures to represent each missing word.
- While you sing, notice which words are missing. Let’s put the correct words back in the song!
- Read the first word strip. Hmm, which word is missing? Have the children look at the pictures and see if they can guess the correct image to fill in the missing blank. Sing through the song as you fill in all the missing word blanks.
#2: MEDIUM DIFFICULTY PUZZLE: Unscramble the Letters
- Choose 5 key words from the song and scramble up the letters in the word. Write your scrambled words on the board before singing time.
- After reviewing the song lyrics, tell the children that all the words on the board come from the song. Do you recognize any of these words?
- Try singing through the song again, having the children see if they can decipher what any of the scrambled words mean.
- Look for a volunteer to come up and unscramble one word. Continue singing until you’ve unscrambled all the key words!
#3: CHALLENGING PUZZLE: Unscramble the Letters + Rearrange the Lyrics
- This version of the puzzle requires you to not only unscramble the jumbled words, but also to put the song in the right order!
- Cut out the lyrics into word strips. You can choose to either cut out short phrases or make it even more challenging and cut out each individual word.
- Tape up all the word strips on the board before singing time in mixed up order.
- After reviewing the song, look at the words on the board. What do you notice about these words? *Hint: They are all lyrics in the song!
- Start by figuring out which words are jumbled. Solve these first, then rearrange the lyrics in the correct order while you sing!
Extension Activities:
- If you have enough time and want to try all 3 levels of the word puzzle, go for it! I recommend this challenge only for your senior primary children. Start with the easiest version, then work your way to the most challenging puzzle!
- If using just the first puzzle, choose an action to pair with each missing word! Alternatively, clap or hum instead of sing the missing words!
- Print and place each of these puzzles in a manila envelope. Split the class into 3 groups and have each group work on a different puzzle! Then, have them switch and see if they can solve each puzzle!
- Try Challenge #3 as a race! Place word strips in envelopes and have each class work together to put the song lyrics in the correct order! Have a special prize ready for the fastest group!
