The Lord Gave Me a Temple Arrangement Pictures

This activity is a very simple way to invite the spirit as you begin teaching this new song in primary! I love the simplicity of this song and the message it teaches. The basic idea for this activity is to share a picture for each line of cthe song while you silently listen to an arrangement of the song as a group.

I started by choosing a picture to represent each phrase of the song. You can find these visuals later in the post. Most of these images came from the Church’s media library. I have found this to be such a fantastic resource for singing time!

Before primary, print the visuals included in the printable. You can also show the pictures in slideshow form if you are able to borrow a large TV from the building’s library.

This activity can be a wonderful way to introduce or review this song. If you are introducing this song in primary for the very first time, start by explaining that you’ll be reverently listening to a new primary song.

As we watch the song, I’m going to share some pictures that represent different parts of the song. Notice how you feel and see if you can guess what the song might be about.

Begin playing a recording of the song. You’ll love this beautiful rendition sung by the National Philharmonic Orchestra. I recommend bringing in a speaker so that you can hear the music well.

Throughout the song, silently post each picture on the board when the phrase is sung. This part of the activity is meant to be completely quiet. If children are chatting, remind them that they can share their thoughts after the music finishes.

When the song is over, ask the children how they felt during the song. Invite a few kids to share. You can also allow them to look at the pictures quietly for a few moments before beginning the discussion.

Begin teaching The Lord Gave Me a Temple (flip chart here) and share a brief testimony at the end.

You can also use this as a review activity! When your primary kids are comfortable with the words, you can help them think about the message of the song. I have some fun ideas below for using this activity to review!

Extension Activities:

  • For a fun review idea, have the kids put the pictures in the right order! Mix up the pictures at the beginning of primary and see if they can arrange the pictures correctly! The temple images can be reversed to fit either at the beginning or the end of the song.
  • On the back of each picture, write an example of things we can do to keep our bodies clean and pure like a temple. After the song, read each example and discuss other ways to take care of our bodies.
  • Jump right into this activity with a chart to compare how our bodies are similar to the temple! These two ideas can pair really well together.
  • Write out each phrase on the board. Have the kids correctly pair the picture with the matching phrase.
