You’ll love this fun The Miracle Crack the Code lesson plan for Singing Time that has you singing through lots of repetition while trying to figure out what the hearts and stars that replace some of the song lyrics represent! Then, add in fun movement actions for each of the symbols!
I’m so excited to teach The Miracle (archives) to my Primary kiddos as part of the New Testament Primary Songs this upcoming year! I plan to include this song as one of my focus songs for the year.
The Miracle Crack the Code
Sing through The Miracle with this flip chart once, before introducing this activity.
Post the crack the code guide for The Miracle up on the board. Ask the children what they notice when they look at the chart. They might say things such as that they see hearts and stars, the first page has no stars, there are hearts on almost every line, etc.
Sing together as the children look for clues as you sing to help you crack the code!
After singing through the verse, ask what could the hearts and stars represent?
Yes! The hearts are for any time we are talking about Jesus! Why might we use a Heart to represent Jesus? Because He loves us! He spent His whole life showing love to other people. Let’s sing through the song and make heart hands whenever we sing one of our heart words!
Continue to crack and decode the pattern as you add actions that match the symbols from the pattern guide you’ve chosen.

You’ll find a couple of different crack the code patterns, depending on your Primary’s age and abilities you can pick the pattern guide that will work best for your Primary.

Extension Activities:
- Assign a specific set of keywords to one half of the room. That might look like having all of the Primary children sing the miracle words while the teachers sing the whole song. Or have one side pick one symbol to sing and the other side to pick a different symbol. Can they catch all their keywords?
- Cut the Crack the Code pattern into a couple of pieces. Have the children to work to put the pattern in the correct order. This would be a fun envelope challenge to pass out to each class or small group to assemble as you sing. Can you get all of the puzzle back into the correct order? You might focus on a specific verse you are teaching for this challenge.
