You’ll love this activity to teach To Think about Jesus (archives) in your Primary room this year! It’s a great object lesson and activity in one. Teach about removing extra distractions to help you better focus on the Savior as you eliminate the wrong words and sing through this song a bunch of times in this To Think about Jesus Eraser Pass game!
To Think about Jesus Eraser Pass
How to Play:
Sing through the To Think about Jesus lyrics once, before introducing this activity.
Ask the children, what does it mean to think about Jesus? What are some ways you can think about him? (Answers might include: read the scriptures, tell stories about Jesus, ponder on his life, pray, etc.)
Today, we’re going to try thinking hard about Jesus as we look for the correct words for the song. This puzzle has a bunch of wrong words and we want to cross those out and focus on all the things he did for us that this song talks about.
Sing through To Think about Jesus again and this time invite a child to come up front and cross out an incorrect word while you sing. After they have crossed off a word, then can pass the marker to the next child in their class and work your way down the row so everyone gets a turn.
When the song is over, you can make a point that it’s easier to think about Jesus when we remove these distracting extra words! You’re doing so good, let’s keep going! Sing through the song several more times until only the correct words are left up on the paper.
Is it easier to sing the song now with the correct helper words on the board? How can we remove distractions at church or at home to help us better think about Jesus? Accept a few answers from the children and praise their great ideas!
Share a brief testimony of taking time to think about Jesus during the sacrament or another time and how it has helped you in your life.
Extension Activities:
- Try singing the song and skip singing all the keywords that are left! You can clap instead, snap instead, pat instead, or try whisper singing those selected keywords.
- If the kids are struggling to figure out what words are incorrect, invite the children to sing out the correct keyword extra loud! This can help them find where you are at in the song and cross off an incorrect word.
- Cut up all the word pairs into strips with 3 words per line. Put them all out of order and have the children try to put them in the correct order after the eraser pass game! This is an extra challenge you can try with older Senior Primary children.
- Add an action to match each of your keywords when they are left! Once a row is completed and in-between singing through the verse, come up with an action together for that line of the song!
