To Think about Jesus Reverence Singing
Sing through To Think about Jesus (flip chart here) once, before introducing this activity. This is a great way to focus the kids attention, remind them of the lyrics, and transition before a new activity.
Now, invite the children to come up and pick a reverence singing card. They can draw randomly from the cards in your hand, pick one up on the board and flip it over, or simply select their choice from face up options.

You’ll then do the action together while you sing through the song. There are a variety of different actions included and they are themed around ways to be reverent that are adapted towards singing time.
You can talk after each action about how they can do a similar action at home or at church to show reverence. That might look like keeping hands to myself, walking quietly to class, raising my hand to speak, kneeling to show reverence when I pray, watching the music leader and paying attention, closing my eyes to pray, etc.

Ways to Sing Examples:
- Glue your arms and feet together
- Think about Jesus – Skip sing “Jesus”
- Sing quietly / Whisper sing
- Walk in a single file line

Extension Activities:
- Try the actions in a “Do as I’m Doing” style where you transition to doing the action and the opposite of the action. Such as sit tall in your set and then slump down in your seat, following the pacing of the leader. Or kneel and stand, walk in a line one direction, then switch directions.
- Look for children being reverent as you sing. After the song, pick a child who matches one of the 12 actions or who is simply being reverent. Invite that child to come up front and sit up front. They get to follow a specific action for the remainder of this activity! Continue to pick children and let them be your representatives for each action. The Primary children can pick any of the actions to try.
