To Think About Jesus Silent Video

The inspiration for this silent video came from one of the most impactful seminary lessons from my youth. I remember walking into seminary at 5:45am (yes, really!) and seeing my teacher quietly point to the board.

On the board, there was a PowerPoint that had instructions to tuck away cell phones and participate in a “silent seminary” lesson. During class, we watched a PowerPoint with pictures, quotes, and scriptures about the Savior with quiet hymns in the background. It was such a beautiful, powerful experience!

For this spiritual connection activity, I wanted to create a similar experience for primary children. The only prep materials you’ll need for this activity will be technology for your primary room.

I had so much fun putting this slideshow together. The Church Media Library has such a beautiful collection of artwork of Christ available for public use. In this video, you’ll find pictures of the Savior from birth to resurrection.

I’ve also included scripture references for each picture. The pictures may not be in the exact chronological order, but they roughly follow the Savior from His birth, ministry & miracles, to His death and resurrection.

As you prepare for this activity, you’ll want to be sure to set up all technology beforehand. It can be so frustrating to fumble with the technology while trying to invite the Spirit and keep everyone engaged. I recommend trying it out ahead of time to make sure your TV, laptop, or IPad will show the video properly. You can also print these pictures and display them on the board if you are unable to share via technology.

How you decide to start this activity is totally up to you! If this is your first time introducing this song, you may want to begin by telling the children that you’ll be watching a video about Jesus. Invite them to quietly look at the pictures as you play the song in the background.

You can also begin by singing To Think About Jesus (flip chart here) together before showing the video. This can be a great way to get in some song practice while focusing on the message of the song.

Then, simply play the slideshow! Encourage the children to watch quietly as you have the pianist play the song in the background. To help them stay engaged, tell them that you’ll be asking a few questions at the end of the video. These can be simple questions like “What happened after Jesus died?” or “Who baptized Jesus?”

After the video, you might also invite a few children to share any thoughts or feelings they had while viewing images of the Savior. Conclude by singing through the song and sharing your testimony of the Savior. My sincere hope is that this activity will be a meaningful experience for your primary children!

Extension Activities:

  • Share a church video that depicts a part of the Savior’s life. This playlist of Easter videos has some great options!
  • Read General Conference quotes or scriptures about the Savior’s life and character as you review this song. This talk by Dallin H. Oaks entitled, “The Teachings of Jesus Christ” is a great starting point.
  • Have each class choose a favorite story of Jesus to share with the class. Share a story each time you sing through the song! Or, write down simple phrases like, “leper,” “apostles,” “ship,” or “garden” on strips of paper. Have the kids pull a paper and see if they know the scripture story!
  • Try a sing along video for a unique way to practice! Follow the lyrics and sing along with me with a sing along video.
