The Church of Jesus Christ Sentence Maze
How to Play:
Sing through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints song once, before introducing the activity.
Put the large 4-page poster up on the board or hand out individual single-page sentence maze. Have a variety of colors ready so the children can use a different color for each word!
Explain to the kids that there is a hidden sentence in this letter maze and their job is to find what letter comes next and make their way all the way to the end to reveal the sentence!
There are 17 words, but the first word is already revealed “I”. So you can have the children find 2-4 words after each time through the song, depending on how much repetition you’re looking for.
Share your testimony that despite all the confusion in the world around us with the different choices we might face each day, we know how to follow the Savior by following the prophet, keeping the commandments, and staying close to the Savior.
Knowing who we are is one of the most important truths we can ever know, and not everyone knows the simple truth that we are children of God.
Extension Activities:
- Cover all of the letters in mini post-it notes. Let the children pick a path and they get to continue following the path until they reach a dash (“-“ to indicate the wrong way!). Then, sing through the song again! Then continue to try to find the right path.
- Sing “BINGO” style where you don’t sing all the currently revealed words, instead silently sing them adding more words to silently sing as you make your way through the song, then sing the rest of the song out loud!
- Included only 2 colors. Color each word in an alternating color (such as orange and blue). Divide the room into 2 groups. Each group sings their colored words. It’ll be a fun way to alternate singing every other word for the first 2 lines of the song.
