When Joseph Went to Bethlehem Comic Strip
Sing through When Joseph Went to Bethlehem flip chart once, before introducing this activity.
Post the comic strip pages one at a time, or all at once. Have 2-3 children come up front and work on adding drawings to the first or their choice of page while everyone sings through the song.
Point out some of the symbols and pictures drawn and echo sing one line of the song that represents the pictures. You sing the line, and then the kids repeat sing back to you the words.
Now switch up the volunteers and sing through the song again.
When the comic strip is all finished, divide the Primary into two groups. Then, alternate singing every other part of the song.
Extension Activities:
- Hand out individual comic strip charts and let the kids draw the song while you all sing together. Then, have the children come up front and show off their unique comic strip drawings!
- Pass out one page to each class (or small group) and then bring all the completed pictures together up on the board or with a volunteer from the class to hold their page upfront!
- Flip over pages of the comic strip and stand and sing out with loud and pretty singing verses the flipped over pages.
- Let the children take their filled-in or blank comic strip home and practice singing through the song throughout the week!
- Have the children sing all the pages that match the colors they are wearing.
