“Give,” said the Little Stream Egg Shakers Pattern
How to Play:
Sing Give Said the Little Stream (flip chart here) once, before introducing the pattern.
Introduce one shaking action at a time. I recommend starting with the right and left shake action on “Stream” or the coordinating words for the alternate verses. (“Rain” and “Jesus”) There are two references at the beginning of the song.

Next, you might add the action to wave the egg shaker up in the air as you sing the word “Singing” in the chorus with 4 waves!
Now, throw in another action and continue working your way through the song until you have added all 6 different actions! You’ll get in TONS of singing repetition and it won’t be hard to learn the pattern as you add it in one at a time.

Give Said the Little Stream Egg Shaker Actions:
- Pass the egg shaker to your partner on “Give”
- Shake right and left on “Stream” (“Rain” 2nd verse and “Jesus” 3rd verse)
- Shake one distinct shale on each syllable on: “hur- / ried / down / the / hill”
- Small toss back and forth to self on = “I’m small I know but wherever I go” (4 tosses)
- Rub the egg shaker in your hands for = “The fields grow greener still”
- Wave the egg shaker in the air on “Singing”

Extension Activities:
- For Junior Primary, you can all sit in a circle. Pass out 2-3 egg shakers, evenly spaced apart. Pass the egg shaker to the right as you sing. You can pass on “give” or pass on each word you sing. Try mixing in some of the other actions, as you pass the egg!
- For a harder challenge, show the whole pattern at once! The kids should be able to follow along after a time or two trying it out!
- Use only one egg shaker for every pair of kids to have them share and practice truly “giving” to each other. They’ll still get lots of use throughout the song. Or, you can pass out enough for every child to hold one egg and just swap their egg shakers on the “pass” action holding theirs in their right hand and receiving the new egg in the left hand to make it easier to pass quickly.
