God’s Love Draw the Song
This lovely new Shawna Edwards song shares stories from the Old Testament, relating God’s love for all His children, then and now. If you are looking for an addition to your Come Follow Me Old Testament plans, this one is an excellent choice!
As you teach this song in primary, add a visual element with this fun and simple draw the song activity! The basic idea behind this activity is to draw each scripture scene mentioned in the lyrics.

Now, don’t let a lack of drawing skills steer you away from this activity! The goal is not to create a masterpiece. The goal is to simply visualize the stories to deepen your understanding of the lyrics!
For this activity, you’ll need some basic art supplies. Grab some markers, colored pencils, crayons, or even stickers for the children to use. You can keep it as simple or elaborate as you’d like!
For this specific activity, I chose to make it a group activity by assigning one scripture story to each class. If you’d prefer to do it all together, you absolutely can! See my extension ideas later in this post for some options for this.

How to Play:
Start by singing through God’s Love (flip chart) once before introducing this activity. Then, pass out one scripture story to each class and distribute the art supplies.
Today we’re going to draw some pictures! Each class will have one scripture story from this song. Try to draw the scripture story as best as you can, and then we’ll share them with the group!
While each group works on their picture, have the pianist play the song in the background or play it on a speaker. Even though the children aren’t actively singing, they are hearing the words. The more they hear the song, the more they’ll be able to remember the lyrics and develop an understanding about its meaning.

Set a timer for 5 or so minutes, then have all the groups put away their supplies. Who wants to share their picture first?
Have each class share their drawings and discuss a little bit about each story. How did Heavenly Father help Joseph when he was placed in the prison by Pharaoh? What did Heavenly Father do to protect Daniel from the lions?
I always love to finish by singing through the song again. I feel the Spirit so strongly when primary children sing, and it is a wonderful way to send them off to their week!

Extension Activities:
- Tape all the blank pages on the board at the beginning of singing time. As you sing, choose reverent volunteers to come up and quietly draw a scene. Continue taking turns until each scripture story has a picture!
- Create an “art gallery” with your pictures! Tape the blank pages throughout the room. Give each child a few crayons to start with. Then, set a short timer and divide up the kids so that there are only a few kids at each picture. Draw until the timer goes off! Then, move to a new picture and see what you can contribute!
- After sharing the pictures, scramble up all the stories and have the kids put them in the correct order as they appear in this song!
- Popcorn sing! Have each group sing only the lines for which they drew the picture. Have all the children sing the chorus together!
- Reverse the activity by playing Pictionary. Choose a volunteer and whisper one line of the song. See if the rest of the class can guess which story they are drawing!
