God’s Love Magic Crayon
No art supplies necessary for this fun magic crayon singing time idea! If you are unfamiliar with this type of activity, the basic idea is to draw shapes in the air to represent keywords throughout the song.
This activity is great for both older and younger primary children, but you may find that your Junior primary kiddos especially enjoy it! Children have such amazing imaginations, so this activity really capitalizes on those skills!
For this activity, I wanted to focus specifically on the chorus. If you’d like to focus on the verse, this God’s Love Draw the Song activity will pair really well, as both activities focus on visualizing the lyrics.
At the beginning of singing time, sing through the chorus once. Our God’s Love flip chart is a great resource if the lyrics are still a little shaky. Then post the Magic Crayon symbols on the board.
Can anyone guess what the first symbol is? That’s right – it’s a book! Today I brought my “magic crayons.” I’d like to share them with you! Can you draw a book in the air?
Sing through the chorus as you draw each symbol in the air. Point to each symbol as you go, or pick a helper to point to the symbols. “God’s love is wider than the sky” – let’s draw a cloud for this one!
What could we draw to represent the “deep blue sea?” I love incorporating ideas from the kids, so don’t be afraid to steer away from the printable poster if you get some awesome ideas from your primary children!
Each time you sing the words, “God’s love” in the chorus, draw a big heart shape in the air. Heavenly Father loves us all so much. Just as He helped people in the scriptures, He can help comfort, protect, and guide us today.
There’s really not that much to it, and that’s what I really love about this activity! It’s a simple, low-prep idea that is both effective and engaging. - Ocean waves – “Deeper than the deep blue sea

- Peace Sign – “Fill an aching heart with peace”
- Up & Down – “Unchanging through eternity”
- Heart – “Just as God loved Joseph and Jonah and Job
- Smiley Face – “I know He loves me”
Extension Activities:
- Divide the pictures between classes and have each class draw the shape and sing the corresponding line.
- Play a game of Pictionary! Cut out all the pictures and choose a volunteer to come up and draw the image in the air. Have the rest of the class guess which shape you are drawing. Then, see if they can figure out how that shape relates to the song!
- Add an extra element of fun with some instruments! Use egg shakers or jingle bells to create each shape.
- Cut the magic crayon symbols into four word strips. Can you guess which line of the song matches each set of symbols?
- Pick four helpers to come up and “lead.” Take turns drawing one line at a time. Then, choose four new helpers.
