Prepare ahead of time by adding all of the pages into a 3-ring binder in sheet protectors so you can easily flip through the pages like a book.
Sing through He Cares for Me with this flip chart once, before introducing this activity. I like to use the flip chart the first time through as it helps refresh the song lyrics for kids who may have been out of town and reminds the teachers, too! Especially with this very visual singing time, it’s nice to use your official flip chart, and then switch to this storybook for the rest of the song.
Bring out your storybook. Tell the children you want to share a story with them. This story is all about the ways we can know that a loving Heavenly Father cares for us. Pay attention to see how much evidence you hear that show us that he loves us!
Read the song lyrics like a storybook, flipping the pages and using your best animated reading voice. Pause after each verse and sing through the verse together.
Continue to read and sing, using directed listening questions below, if desired.
Extension Activities:
- If you have a small Primary, consider gathering all the children around you seated at a chair like you are reading a book at story time!
- Use the ¼ page size cards and scramble up the page order. Have the Primary children work to put the pictures in the correct order, following along as you go!
- Pretend to accidentally drop the pages. Oh no! Can you help me put the story back in order. Sing through the song as you figure out the page order. Then, read the story!
Pair each time through the story or as you sing with questions to direct what you want the children to pay attention to. Some questions might include:
- What is something that we see every day that God made? (The Sun)
- How does Heavenly Father love us? (Perfectly!)
- Does God care about animals? (Yes!) What about tiny animals? (Yes!)
- What is something that Heavenly Father knows about you? (Your face and voice!)
- What is something that God doesn’t know? (Nothing – He knows everything)
