I Often Go Walking Song Quiz
Sing through I Often Go Walking with this flip chart once, before beginning the song quiz. That will help ensure the children remember the words and give a quick refresher before you begin.
Tell the children you’re going to ask them a question from the song lyrics. Listen carefully for the answer and raise your hand as soon as you think you know the answer! Post the first question on the board: “How frequently do they go walking in this song?”

Read the question out loud so your non-readers can also participate. You can sign the first line to listen for the answer or some of the kids may already have heard the answer and you can take their answer first, then sing through the line of the song.
Ask the next question and have the children listen for the answer as you sing through the first full line of the song. Then let one of your Primary children answer.
Continue to work your way through singing the song and answering the song quiz.

Extension Activities:
- Add an action to coordinate with each of the questions you’ve answered as you build up the song. For example, after answering the first question, you would add walking in place as you sing “I often go walking” each time through the song.
- Divide the room into two groups instead. Invite two children to come up front and face off. You can even include a game buzzer, if you’d like! The first to buzz in or raise their hand gets a chance to answer and score a point. Then sing through that far into the song before asking for new volunteers and another question.

- Hand out a 1-page song quiz to each class. Sing through the song once, then tell them to answer two of the questions from the quiz together as a class. Continue to sing through the song a few more times and answer additional questions between each time singing. Then, go through the answers together to see how many each class got right.
- Put the questions scrambled all over the board and ask the song quiz questions in a random order. You can let the children come up front to pick one to flip over. This will be a harder challenge to think of the lyrics from the entire song for each question you ask. This would be a great option for an older Senior Primary or as more of a review then a learning activity.
