More Than Enough Egg Shakers

More Than Enough Egg Shakers

I can’t tell you the number of times I have teared up singing this song! If you are looking for a sweet, unique song to share with your congregation for Mother’s Day, this song is a perfect fit! Since this song is likely to be brand-new to at least some of your primary children, it may take some time for the rhythm to stick. That’s why I created this egg shakers pattern!

Whether you decide to purchase or make your own egg shakers (DIY Tutorial), these instruments are sure to be a hit in your primary room! Let’s jump right in and I’ll share this simple pattern with you.

Sing through More Than Enough once before passing out egg shakers. I definitely recommend keeping a copy of the flip chart close by to easily follow along with the lyrics.

Then, demonstrate the first part of the pattern by slowly swirling the beads inside your egg. Can you try this with me? We aren’t shaking our eggs quite yet, but listen to add the beads inside. Sing the phrase, “Maybe I’ll never know.”

Then, transition to the next action by shaking your egg upward as the melody goes up, “the love it takes.”

Repeat these two actions for the next line, “to make me a happy home that’s / warm and safe.” Just follow the melody upward with your eggs.

Then, tap your egg on your left hand as you sing, “May-be” and switch to your right hand for “never see.” Repeat on both hands for “Pray for / every need”

Now, we’ll go back to our first two actions and slowly swirl the beads for the phrase, “wonder what more you could – “ and fast shake for “do for me.” Now, the melody technically goes down here, so you can continue following the melody and shake down, or just keep it simple and shake upward as you did before.

Try the verse together a few times before moving on to the chorus. If you’d like a visual to follow along with, tape up the egg shaker pattern as you demonstrate each part of the pattern.  

Egg Shakers Pattern:

I’ve included a full outline for the egg shakers pattern for this song below. Keep in mind that this pattern works for any of the verses you are focusing on. Grab the printable version and practice along with my demonstration video, both included later in this post.

Verse Pattern:

• Slowly Swirl Beads = “Maybe I’ll never know” / “make me a happy home” / “wonder what more you could”
• Fast Shake Upward = “Love it takes” / “Warm and safe” / “Do for me”
• Tap LH 2X = “May – be” “pray for”
• TAP RH 2X = “Never see” / “every need”

Chorus Pattern:

• Shake Left to Right = “Walk by my side”
• Steady Shake 3x = “Read me stories”
• Shake in a Heart Shape = “Teach me to trust in God’s love”
• Toss & Catch 2x = “You give me a hug, maybe two”
• Spin = “say, “I love you”
• Fast Shake = “Doing enough”

Extension Activities:

• Divide the room in half. Have one side sing and do all the egg shaker actions for the verse, then have the other side do the chorus. Then, swap!
• Simplify the rhythm by shaking on every syllable. Then, add in a fast shake for the end phrases like, “Love it takes” and “warm and safe.”  Then, try adding an action or two from the pattern.
• Shake on descriptive words – Love, Warm, Safe, Happy. Then, try shaking on all words that tell us things a mother does – Walk, Read, Teach, Hug, Say, “I love you”
