“I Spy With My Little Eye…” a very simple singing time activity! Use this fun I See a Hero I Spy Primary Game to keep your primary children engaged while singing I See a Hero in singing time!
This activity can be as simple and choosing someone to give clues about a hidden object in the room while the rest of the group sings! Your primary children will enjoy searching for mystery items around the room while singing this Father’s Day song!
I See a Hero I Spy Singing Time Idea
If you haven’t picked a song yet for Father’s Day, I See a Hero is a great choice! You can find this song for purchase at Shawna Edwards Music. This song is so sweet and shares a beautiful message of gratitude for fathers.
Whether you are teaching this song or another song for Father’s Day, this I Spy activity can be a great way to review! This activity can actually be used to review any primary song. It is an awesome one to keep in your back pocket because it is so simple!
This activity doesn’t really require any extra supplies. You can add some extra fun with cute props if you want! If you have a small magnifying glass, that might be fun to pass around as kids take turns giving clues.
I’ve also created a printable magnifying glass that can be used in place of a real one. Just print out the magnifying glass and have the child giving the clues use it to pretend they are looking around for something! You can find this printable later in this post.
Start by reviewing your I See a Hero using our flipchart! It’s a great way to remind the kids of how the song goes and review for children who were gone the previous week.
Then, tell the kids that you’ll be playing a game of “I Spy” during singing time! Choose a child to pick a mystery item around the room. Have them whisper the clue to you so that you can help the class if needed.
Have the child give the class a clue to find their hidden item. Then, sing through the song again. While you sing, have the kids look around the room to see if the can spot the item (try to have them stay in their seats).
When the song is finished, have the kids raise their hands to guess the item. Whoever guesses correctly gets to pick the hidden item next!
I Spy Ideas:
This list is by no means all-inclusive, but contains several items that you might find around your primary room. These are simple items that make for great “I Spy” ideas.
Your primary kids will probably be able to spot lots of interesting items, but here are some things to look for in case they need some help!
- Shoe
- White Board Marker
- Dress
- Necklace
- Tie
- Picture on the wall
- Sign on the board
- Book
- Shirt
- Piece of candy
- Water Bottle
- Scripture Case
- Coloring Page
Extension Activities:
- Combine this activity with the classic “Hot and Cold” singing time activity! Choose an item to hide in the primary room. Have a teacher go out into the hall with one of the kids while the rest of the group chooses where to hide the item. When the child comes back in the room, have the kids help them find the item by singing louder as they get closer to the hidden item!
- Hide a bunch of mystery items around the room. Then, give clues for the location of hidden items while you sing! Give one clue per verse!
- Have the teachers pick! Choose a teacher to choose something in the room. Have them give clues while you sing until the object is found! Then, have another teacher pick!
