I Will Follow God’s Plan Rebus
How to Play:
Sing through I Will Follow God’s Plan (Flip Chart here) once, before introducing this activity.
These rebus puzzles will help you learn the “verse” of this song. While it’s not technically classified as a chorus for the second half since there is only a single verse, the second half of the song is easier to learn and definitely sings like a chorus.
The song is pretty long to try to squeeze all the lyrics in the first week you’re teaching it. So, I’m focusing this fun rebus activity on just the first half of the song with a half of a line per picture puzzle! I also felt the first half of the song was easier to come up with some fun and creative picture puzzles.
Ask a child if they can come up and be a detective for you. Have all of the rebus puzzles up on a front side table. Sing the first part of the song and ask them to find the one that they think fits.
Show it to the Primary room – did they get it right? Sing the first half of a line together. Now sing from the beginning and add part 2 with a new detective.
Continue seeking and adding pieces to the board for each part of the song. This will build in TONS of repetition especially of the trickier 3 lines of “My life…” that can sometimes be jumbled into the wrong order.
Rebus Puzzles:
- My life is a gift = Gift with “Life” tag
- My life has a plan = Life with a Plan in the middle
- My life has a purpose = Life word creating a shadow of the word purpose
- In heav’n it began = The word heaven growing bigger and bigger.
- My choice was to come = Words to choose from with “come” circled
- To this lovely home on earth = Large home icon placed on top of the earth
- And seek for God’s light = Letter search with the letters from “light” with magnifying glass spotting the full word
- To direct me from birth = Baby with lots of directions to choose from
Extension Activities:
Pointer Singing: Display all the rebus pictures up on the board. Hold a fun pointer object towards the pictures and have the children make a sound to indicate if you’re on the right image that comes next!
- You might use “ooooh” and sing louder and softer as the pointer moves closer and farther.
- Or try singing “lalala” and sing faster or slower depending on how close the pointer is!
Sing & Match: Place all of the rebus puzzles upside down. Hunt for the right one! Sing the first half line of the song and have them flip over (and then turn back faced down) the puzzle cards until they find the correct one.
Leave it face up and then sing the first half and second half of the first line. Continuing building on the lyrics and finding the correct picture!
