Help the children better connect and recognize all the different things their mom does for them as you teach this beautiful Mother’s Day song for Primary children (see that link for the master song list!) this year. Use the different phrases from the song More Than Enough to show how much mom loves them, and open it up to hear the kids responses, too!
More Than Enough Things Mom Does
Sing through More Than Enough (archives) once, before introducing this activity.
Ask the children to listen carefully as you sing through the chorus. Can they hear something mom does for them that helps them? Let’s see how many you can name! Post the 1-page poster that says “Some things my mom has done for me…” Sing again as they listen for some of those things.
Have the children name some of the things they have heard from the chorus. What does mom do for you? Invite the child that names one of the things to come and add that item to the board. Here’s the ones I came up with from the chorus:
- Walk by my side
- Read me stories at night
- Teach me to trust in God’s love
- Give me a hug, maybe two
- Say “I love you”
Extension Activities:
- Hide the different things mom does cards around the room or under the chairs. Invite a child to find one of the cards or bring up the card under their chair. Let them read the thing and then pick an action to add as you sing that line of the song. That might look like holding your hands like a book, fold your arms in prayer, walk in place, etc.
- Challenge the children to think of things that can do back for their mom. What ways can they show love to their mom for all the things she does for them? Some ideas might be help with the chores, be kind to my siblings, be a good listener.
