For a fun and exciting activity in Singing Time, you’ll love this fun Song Muncher Arcade Game. It’s patterned after a favorite classic arcade game with a couple different ways to play.
This is a fun activity to incorporate for Father’s Day (singing time ideas) bringing back a classic Arcade game dads love with a brand new twist. Or use it during the summer break! Of course, it can be used any time of the year to review your choice of a mix of songs or a single song with ways to sing actions.
Song Muncher Arcade Game
Put the Song Muncher Arcade Game board up front where everyone can see it. Explain that this game is like a fun classic arcade game you might be familiar with – can you guess which one? (Pacman). That’s right!
Your goal will be to get Singo our friendly song monster to the music note. You can go whichever way you want but not through any of the solid line walls.
Each colored spot that Singo moves through will represent one fun way to sing. You can pick your path and which singing style comes next.
You can use magnets in place of Singo or the Song Muncher to move them easier.
Song Muncher Ways to Sing:
Muncher: Monster Pose – Strike your best monster pose while you sing.
Red: Sing & Stop – Hold up a sign of when to sing out loud and when to stop singing (let the music continue). Make sure you’re singing in your head so you can continue where you left off when the sign switches.
Orange: Nod Each Word – Nod your head one quick note per word you sing.
Yellow: Don’t Blink! – Try to keep your eyes open the whole song – without blinking! You may need to sing faster to meet the challenge!
Extension Activities:
- Instead of using the ways to sing cards, you can use each colored dot to represent your choice of song and sing through a mix of different songs. You can also break up your songs by verse to keep each singing task short and sweet.
- If you want to get through this game a little quicker or a couple of times, let the children roll a dice instead. They get to move as many spaces as they rolled. You can also print 2 copies of each of the cards and play more Candy Land style and draw a card color, then move forward to that colored space.
- Add a Song Muncher opponent. Divide the Primary into two groups or use the teachers vs the kids. Have the second group roll a dice to move the song muncher towards Singo!
