This darling St Patrick’s Day Roll a Rainbow Game is a perfect and super fun activity for the holiday! It’s flexible enough to use in your Primary Singing Time lessons, but can also be used by any teacher or even just a print and play game for your own kids.
This Roll a Rainbow game takes a spin on the classic cootie game where you roll dice to collect pieces and build a rainbow! You’ll need to roll at least 2 of each number plus two of any number to complete your rainbow scene!
This would be a PERFECT game to play when teaching When I Am Baptized!! Just substitute using 6 different songs for adding in 6 different ways to sing a Primary Song. See that post to pick out some fun ways to mix up your singing time.

St Patrick’s Day Roll a Rainbow Dice Game
How to Play Roll a Rainbow:
Print out your choice of rainbow from below or draw your own outline on a white board. There are two individual sized rainbows below one already colored and one to print and color with directions on how to play great for small groups or to use in a classroom or your own home!
Or choose the 2-page rainbow. Your printer will warn you about print margins. Don’t worry! I couldn’t find an easy way to crop the rainbow shape when making it, so it overlaps just enough that when the margins crop the print you should be good to trim just a little, if necessary, and then match the two halves of the rainbow together perfectly!
Cut out the rainbow in half (or 3rds or 4ths for a longer game) and then cut the ribbons of color into individual strips. Place all the rainbow pieces around the sides of the whiteboard, leaving space in the middle to assemble your rainbow!
Fill in the dice page with your songs of choice. Some suggested songs to include are:
- I Am a Child of God
- When I Am Baptized
- My Heavenly Father Loves Me
- Give Said the Little Stream
- I Often Go Walking
- The Church of Jesus Christ

Now, have a child roll a 6-sided dice. Add a colored piece of the rainbow that matches the dice roll. Then, sing the matching song. Continue to roll and sing until you’ve filled in the whole rainbow! If you roll a repeat number after you’ve finished a color, you get to add a cloud piece as a wild!
Extension Activities:
- Have the children color in their individual rainbows while you play.
- Make it a competition between two children. Each child rolls and rerolls as fast as they can until they roll a 1. Sing then repeat with 2, etc.
- Add a cute “pot of gold” treat for completing the rainbow. You could pass out gold coins that can be redeemed at a treasure box or rolos!
- Let them pick a rainbow piece. This could be random (upside down) or by choice. Sing that song and add the rainbow piece.
- Add a fun action or way to sing assigned to each of the colors instead of songs! Then, repeat one song over and over again with new actions.
