Here’s another great way to help you teach the song Tell Me Dear Lord in your Primary this year. This Tell Me Dear Lord Melody Map helps you show the melody in a visual way with the notes mapped out and a couple colors to help make an impact, too!
This song is part of the 2023 New Testament Primary Songs list for Come Follow Me.

Tell Me Dear Lord Melody Map
Sing through Tell Me Dear Lord (flip chart here) once, before introducing this activity.
Put the 4 pages of the melody map up on the board in the correct order. Ask the children to pick a color (Orange, Purple or Green). What do you think that color might represent? Let’s sing through the song and test it.

Sing through the song again and then ask the children what did they notice. Did you see any patterns with that color. Were we correct? What did that color represent
- Orange = Self
- Purple = The Lord
- Green = All other words

How many times did we sing an orange word? Let’s sing and count!
Sing and count the purple words next. What do you learn about this song by realizing how many times it talks about us and about the Lord? What does the song teach you? (To seek the Lord for help and guidance)

Extension Activities:
- Put the melody map pages in a mixed up order. Sing through the song and ask the children what the noticed. See if they can put them in the right sequence!
- Place the melody map up one page at a time if you’re just learning the song for the first time. This way, you can sing and follow the melody map one line at a time. Sing through the line, then sing through it together.
- Raise and lower your hand following the steps of the notes. Let the kids show you their top note, and their bottom note, great let’s follow the notes as they go up and back down while we sing.
- Sing loud and soft following the pitch. The higher the note sing loud and as the note drop lower sing softly. See how the different notes and volumes changing makes you feel. Sometimes the Spirit speaks to us in different volumes, too.
