I’m so excited to teach I Want to Live the Gospel in primary this year! This song is a short but sweet way to share a testimony of striving to be a disciple of Christ.
This song is in the rotation for Old Testament LDS Primary songs and it will be a great one to teach in primary! I don’t remember learning this song in primary when I was younger, so I always love learning a new song along with my primary kids!
This fun I Want to Live the Gospel Four Corners people interactions activity is a great way to get in lots of practice for this song! Just assign one line per corner and have the children rotate corners as you sing!

I Want to Live the Gospel Four Corners
I am so excited to use this activity in primary! This activity is such a simple way to get in lots of repetition while the kids move around a bit! This song is perfect for this type of activity because it is very short.
For this activity, I’ll be splitting up the class into 4 equal groups. Each group will start in one corner of the room. Each corner of the room will have a specific line from the song that the kids will sing. Everyone will join in on the chorus!
Here is a simple breakdown of the 4 different sections for each corner.
Corner 1: “I want to live the gospel”
Corner 2: “To know that its teachings are true”
Corner 3: “To follow the plan of my Savior”
Corner 4: “And live as He wants me to do.”
CHORUS: Everyone joins in! “I will try in all I do and say to live the gospel more each day” (Repeated twice) .
Once you sing through the song this way, have the kids rotate until each group sings every line of the song! This is a great way to get in lots of repetition while still keeping it fun and new for the kids!
For Junior primary kids, I have learned that call-and-response is a great way to teach. Once kids are assigned to a specific section, read their sections aloud to them and have them say it back to you. You could also have a teacher assigned to each corner to help out!
How to Play:
Before primary, print out the lyrics to I Want to Live the Gospel, and divide the lyrics into 4 equal sections. If you only review one verse, this will equal to one line per section.
Review the first verse of the song and chorus at the beginning of primary. Once the children are confident with the words, see if they’re up for a fun game!
Assign each corner of the room a number. Tape up one lyric section to each corner of the room.
Divide the class into 4 groups. Try to have a mix of ages within each group. Assign each group a number and have them stand in their assigned corner.
Have each group read through their assigned lyrics and begin singing the song. Have each group sing their assigned section and everyone sings the chorus.
When you finish the song, rotate clockwise, and continue singing so children have an opportunity to sing the whole song!
- Have the children randomly choose which corner they want to be in! Have them sing their assigned section, then have them choose the next corner they want to be in!
- Sing though the song and randomly stop the music. Choose a number and have the children in that corner sing the next few words of the song!
- If you are practicing multiple songs, have each corner be a different song! Have children practice singing through lots of different songs!
- Have a teacher close their eyes. They’ll listen closely, and then point towards a corner or 2 that was the best singers! Everyone in the other 2 corners return to their seat and sing the whole song (instead of just one corner’s part). Keep going until you have 1 child left as the winner! Let them be the eyes closed helper next.
