I Will Be What I Believe Choose the Missing Word
Your primary kids will love this missing word activity! The basic idea behind this activity is to fill in the missing blanks using the word bank provided. I’ve included a printable lesson plan later in this post with word blanks for each line of the first verse and chorus.
Prepare for this activity by printing and cutting out the printable word strips. Use magnets or tape to post the word strips and word bank on the board.
Before introducing this activity, review the first verse and chorus using our colorful I Will Be What I Believe flip chart! Then, tell the children that you brought in all the song lyrics to help them practice the song!
Oh no! Some of the words are missing! Can you help me find all the missing words? Look for a volunteer to come up and choose one of the word strips.
Have the child read the line aloud. Which word is missing? See if the child can correctly guess the missing word. If they are correct, write the missing word and cross it off on the word bank. If they guess incorrectly, see if someone in the group can help!
Then, sing through the song again! Let’s see if we can solve a few more word blanks! Continue alternating between filling in the blanks and singing through the song!
If you run into some tricky ones, sing through the line individually to help your primary kiddos get a closer look at the lyrics!
Once you’ve solved all the missing blanks, sing the song one more time! Thank the children for helping you find all the missing words! It’s just that simple! I’ve provided some examples of missing word blanks below. For some extra fun, check out our extension ideas later in this post!

Extension Activities:
- Divide the word strips between classes. Have each class work together to complete their missing word strips! Then, sing through the entire song and have each class sing only their lines.
- Draw or print pictures to represent each missing word. Instead of putting the word bank on the board, tape pictures to the board and have the children choose the missing picture!
- Once all the word strips are completed, have the kids put the song in order! Rearrange the word strips so that they are in the correct order.
- Cut out the words in the word bank and tape them around the room. While listening to the song, have the children look for the correct word to fill in each missing blank!
