Book of Mormon Stories Scripture Stories
This spiritual connection activity is a great way to learn multiple verses of the song at one time! You definitely don’t need to teach all 8 verses of this song, but this activity can be used to review a few or all the verses.
Start by reviewing the first verse of Book of Mormon Stories (flip chart here) with your primary children. This verse is likely familiar to some.
This year, we get to learn about some amazing stories in the Book of Mormon. Let’s see if you recognize some of these stories today!
Split the class into a few groups depending on how many verses you want to teach. I would recommend 3-4 small groups. Then, pass out one scripture story and the lyrics to the corresponding verse.
I’ve created a printable lesson plan with scripture verses that briefly share a small portion of each scripture story mentioned in the song. You can grab the Book of Mormon Stories flip chart and pass out each verse! If you want to introduce all 8 verses, pass out 2 scriptures to each group.
Then, have each group read through their assigned scripture. Does anyone in the group know this scripture story? Discuss the story with your group and read the song lyrics.
Then, have each group share their scripture story and “teach” their verse to the rest of the class! Sing each verse together and share your testimony of the Book of Mormon at the end of singing time.
Scripture Story Examples:
I’ve provided a few examples below of scripture stories that match the verses of this song. Each printable story poster has a scripture reference and 1-3 scripture verses that share just a short portion of the story.
You can totally opt to read more of each story if you have more time to focus on 1-2 verses!
Nephi’s Family Travels to the Promised Land: Verse 1
1 Nephi 18:22-23 – “And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did guide the ship, that we sailed again towards the promised land. And it came to pass that after we had sailed for the space of many days we did arrive at the promised land- and we went forth upon the land, and did pitch our tents; and we did call it the promised land.”
Alma the Younger Repents: Verse 3
Mosiah 27:23-24 – “And it came to pass after they had fasted and prayed for the space of two days and two nights, the limbs of Alma received their strength, and he stood up and began to speak unto them, bidding them to be of good comfort: For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord: behold I am born of the Spirit.”
