Are you looking for a SUPER fun activity that can be used to review any Father’s Day Primary Songs you have picked to teach this year? You’ll absolutely love this Dad’s Toolbox Father’s Day cards lesson plan! Use it with the cute ways to sing activities or color in fun punny cards for dad!
Dad’s Toolbox Ways to Sing
How to Play:
Bring out this super cute toolbox! And tell the children that dad lost all of his tools! They’re scattered all over the Primary room and we need to find them. Do you think you can help collect dad’s tools?
Invite a child to hunt for one of the tools while you sing through the song. When they find the tool, they can come up front and help you lead until the song is over.
Each tool has a connected fun and unique way to sing the song. Read out how you will next sing through the song, then add the tool to the toolbox.
Invite another child to look for the next tool while you sing the song again with your new action or activity.
Continue to make your way through collecting all 9 tools and filling up dad’s toolbox! You’ll get through your song 10 times! If you picked out a longer song, you might start with just one verse, then switch to the next verse, and combine the song by the end.
- Play hot and cold style! Name one tool the child should look for. Have your volunteer close their eyes and then point to where that tool is hidden so everyone knows except your helper. Sing louder as the helper gets close to the tool and quieter as they move away from the tool until they find it.
- Pass out the Father’s Day pun cards. Sing through the song 1-3 times while the children draw a picture or write a letter to their dad on the back of the card. Divide the room by sorting the tools up on the whiteboard into groups of 2 or 3. They can be sorted differently each time! Have each group sing alternating lines! Each child will sing with the tool that matches their card to dad.
- You can also skip the ways to sing and just hide the tools and come up with your own fun twist on a singing time activity!
- Print out the tool puns and the tool ways to sing half-sheet cards. Scramble them and put them up on the board. Flip them over until you find a match, then use that way to sing! Let a child share something they love about their dad.
