Faith Song Egg Shakers
Egg shakers are such a fun instrument to use in singing time! They are relatively cheap, easy to play, and so much fun! If you’re teaching this song around Easter time, you may even be tempted to make your own egg shakers for primary!
Whether you grab this set of 40 colorful egg shakers or make your own, you will love this egg shaker pattern that includes 5 simple actions!
As you prepare for this activity, print out the egg shaker pattern cards to prepare for singing time. You can find these pattern cards in the printable later in this post. These pictures are a great way to remind the kids of the actions throughout the activity.
I always like to start by going through the song once or twice. This helps remind the children of the words and do a brief overview for any new/visiting children. Review the first verse of Faith (flipchart here!) as a primary.
Introduce the activity by passing out shakers and demonstrating all 5 actions in the egg shaker pattern. Invite the children to try the actions with you.
Post the egg shaker pattern cards on the board. Arrange them in the order that they appear in the song. You can print two copies of the “raising palm” cards if you want to show that the action appears twice in the song.
Try singing the verse slowly while using the egg shaker actions. After trying the verse a few times, add in the chorus!
Continue using the egg shaker pattern or add in your own actions! Collect all the egg shakers at the end of primary and share your testimony of faith.
Faith Song Egg Shaker Pattern:
I’ve outlined the entire pattern below!
1. TAP PALM RAISE
For this action, place one hand out and hold it steady. With the other hand, hold the egg shaker and tap it on your other hand. Then, slowly raise your hand while tapping the egg shaker.
Ex. Use this action while you sing, “Faith is knowing the sun will rise, lighting each new day” and “if planted it will grow.”
2. SHAKE BY EAR
For this action, just shake your egg shaker near your ear in a steady rhythm. Use this action while you sing, “Faith is knowing the Lord will hear my prayers each time I pray.”
3. SMALL TOSS
This action requires a little bit of focus! Slowly toss the egg shaker from one hand to the other without dropping it.
Use this action while you sing, “Faith / is like / a lit- / tle / seed.”
4. DRAW A HEART
For this action, slowly shake your egg shaker while drawing a heart shape in the air! Use this action while singing, “Faith is a swelling within my heart.”
5. STEADY TAP
For this action, tap your egg shaker in a steady rhythm. For this song, you can just tap the egg shaker on every word.
Use this action for the last phrase of the song, “When I do right, I know.”
Extension Activities:
