This year, I’ll be teaching Did Jesus Really Live Again in primary. I love the tender message of this song and the spirit that it brings. This Did Jesus Really Live Again – Scripture Stories activity is a spiritual activity that can truly be a testimony builder for your primary kiddos.
I love playing games and laughing together as we learn primary songs. However, with this song in particular, I want to be very reverent in the way that I teach it. The words are so tender and I want to make sure that my primary kiddos remember the feeling they get when they sing this song.

Did Jesus Really Live Again Scripture Stories
To introduce this song in primary, I’ll be using scripture stories to help teach the message of this song. There are many accounts of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection that can be found in the scriptures. For this activity, I’ll be compiling some scripture stories to share in primary.
In preparation for this activity, I did some research on different accounts of Christ’s resurrection. Although many of the accounts we read during Easter time are found in the New Testament, I also tried to find some in the Book of Mormon and Old Testament.
Here are some examples I found:
D&C 138: 13-14 – “And who had offered sacrifice in the similitude of the great sacrifice of the Son of God, and had suffered tribulation in their Redeemer’s name. All these had departed the mortal life, firm in the hope of a glorious resurrection, through the grace of God the Father and his Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ.”
Matthew 28:6 – “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
Luke 23:33-34 – “And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”
Once I found some stories, I typed them up and cut them into strips. I have a printable later in this post that includes the examples above and more! During primary, you might choose to introduce the activity by holding up a picture of Jesus. After singing through one verse of the song, read one of the scripture stories.
Activity Instructions:
- Begin by finding scriptural accounts of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Write down or type these stories.
- Bring your stories into primary with a picture of Jesus.
- Review the words of Did Jesus Really Live Again using this flipchart!
- Once you have reviewed the words, sing the song again. After singing through one verse, invite a child to read one of the accounts of Jesus’ resurrection.
- Continue singing through the verses and reading scriptural accounts of His resurrection.
3 Additional Scriptures Stories Ways to Play:
Scripture Match: To make this activity a little bit more fun, have the children read the scriptural accounts and guess which volume of scripture it comes from. You could even make this a matching game and put the accounts on the right side of the board and volumes of scriptures on the left!
Read & Sing: For another fun adaptation to this activity, assign each class to one of the scriptural accounts of Christ’s resurrection. On the back of each account, write a phrase of the song. Once children have read their story as a group, sing the song again. Each class is responsible for singing ONLY their assigned part. After singing the verse, have classes switch scriptures and sing a new section of the song!
Scripture Pictures: Another way to bring the spirit into this activity could be placing pictures of Christ around the room with the scriptures taped to the back. During the song, children can choose one of the pictures and read the scripture after singing through a verse.
