Mother Dear is a short, sweet Mother’s Day song that would be perfect to pair with another song that you are already teaching. The lyrics are so simple and the message is precious.

If you do decide to add this song to your list, this simple word representations activity is the perfect way to review! As you teach this song, give the children the first few words of a phrase, then have them fill in what comes next!
I’ve created printable word strips with each phrase from this song. Each word strip includes a few missing words! Your job is to figure out what comes next as you sing along with this Mother’s Day tune!
This activity works really well with all ages. To adapt this activity for your non-readers, just use a call-and-response style instead! Say or sing a few words and see if the children can finish the rest of the phrase!

Sing through Mother Dear (flip chart here) once before introducing this activity. This is a good way to keep the song fresh in your mind as you fill in the missing word blanks.
Then, post one page of what comes next word blanks for the first verse. Uh, oh! It looks like some of the words are missing! Let’s see if we can finish all the song phrases.
Sing through the song again, this time listening closely for those missing words. Ask for a volunteer to come up and finish the first phrase.
Continue having the children come up one at a time to fill in the next line of each song phrase as you sing.
Once you’ve completed all the missing lines, sing through the song again. Choose a child to point to each phrase as you sing. Did we get it right? Way to go!
