Dance Scarves are one of my favorite manipulatives to bring into Primary as they bring purposeful movement and have such a wide range of actions you can do with them!
Make sure you refer to my earlier post with 32 different ribbon wand action cards! Many of those movements can be carried over to be used with scarves!
These printable Dance Scarves movement cards will add a series of even more movement and actions that are best suited for scarves with fun actions — like the toss and release — that is always the favorite.

Dance Scarves for Primary
Dance Scarves can be such a fun way to add meaningful movement in your Primary! The kids, both Junior and Senior aged groups, have really loved using the scarves.
By far, their favorite move is tossing the scarf up in the air and trying to catch it. Scarves add a fun and different element that’s different than ribbon wands, because you can use them to mimic real objects which can help paint the song!
I got my Dance Scarves on Amazon which are a great price and lots of colorful options. I would recommend 12″ or 24″ dance scarves.
I use dance scarves all the time they’re SO much fun to bring into your Primary! Pick up a set of Dance Scarves from Amazon here. Plus, to help you easily come up with your own Dance Scarves movement patterns, head over to grab my Dance Scarves Movement Cards.

Ideas for Using the
Dance Scarves Movement Cards
– Make a sequence of actions to fit a song or story. Follow the actions through the song. For long songs, make a shorter sequence that can easily repeat.
– Mix and match the Scarves action cards to make a new sequence of actions to try. You can randomly select them before the song or switch every so often at random intervals.
– You might also split into smaller groups and have each group try their own sequence of actions, and then present their version.

Dance Scarves Movement Cards
I’ve created two different sizes of the Dance Scarves Movement Cards — a printer friendly size and a large, full-page size for big Primary groups!
This first one includes 4-cards per sheet of paper. I highly recommend printing these out on cardstock and you can even laminate to keep them protected! See our favorite supplies for recommendations!
This size is great for small Primary groups or for splitting up your room into smaller groups with the teachers or Primary Presidency helping with the small groups. They give lots of flexibility for changing up the actions in the middle of the song!
If you have a large Primary or simply prefer large printables to post on the whiteboard, you may want to print the larger version! Each of the 24 dance scarves movement cards fill a single page.
You can easily just slip these into sheet protectors and store them in a binder so they stay in perfect condition for your next dance scarves activity!
The Dance Scarves Movement Cards are available through my digital shop. The purchase includes the large, quarter-page, and contact page printables you’ll have everything you need to get started making your own Dance Scarves patterns!
