Have some fun with this Stand for the Right Mirror Your Partner purposeful movement activity! For this singing time activity, the children will be mirroring each other’s actions. One partner gets to be the leader, and the other gets to be the mirror!
Since the kids will be in pairs, this activity works really well as a people interaction idea too! In this post, you’ll find 18 fun, printable action cards to give ideas for different movements to use!

Stand for the Right Mirror Your Partner
Movement activities can be a great way to review nearly any primary song! Moving around in primary keeps even your wiggliest primary kids engaged. We have lots of fun movement ideas, from dance scarves and ribbon wands to movement games like freeze dance!
In order to mirror someone else’s actions, you have to actually pay attention and watch them! This is a way to help your primary kids stay focused while still having fun and moving around!
For this mirroring activity, have the kids first try to mirror your actions. The more silly you can make your actions, the better! Once they get a hang of it, have them try to mirror each other while singing Stand for the Right!
How to Play:
Review Stand for the Right with this flipchart. Then, have the kids pretend that there is a giant mirror in between you and the class. Have them copy your actions by first standing up.
Once everyone is standing, practice by having the kids copy a few simple actions. Use the actions chart later in this post to help you quickly think of actions. Then, add in the music! Have the kids sing while mirroring your actions!
After singing through the song a few times, have each child choose a partner. Choose which partner gets to be the leader and which child gets to be the mirror. There are lots of creative ways to decide which partner gets to go first! You could put a sticker on the person who is the leader or have the child with the earliest birthday go first.
Have the leader choose actions while the mirror follows. Continue singing while you do the actions. You can give each partnership a set of 4-5 actions to help them come up with ideas.
I’ve created a printable with 18 different action cards that can be used for this activity. You can also find full-size and 1/4 sheet versions when you subscribe to Instant Primary Singing. Take a look at my list below or print off the action cards later in this post!

- Do the opposite! Have the kids try to do the opposite of whatever action you do. For example, if you reach your right arm up, have them reach their left arm down.
