I am so excited to share these cute Primary Singing Time Cue Cards that you can use to review ANY primary song you are teaching!
When I was first called as a primary singing time chorister, I wanted some easy activities that I could pull from my pocket for any primary song. I have been collecting these cute cue cards for about two years now, and I just keep adding to the collection!
In this post, I’ll share my top 8 favorite cue cards to use in singing time! You can grab the printable later in this post with all 8 of these fun primary cue cards!
Primary Cue Cards For ANY Singing Time Activity
Let’s be honest, not every single primary activity goes exactly as planned. Sometimes the kids are a little squirrely. Sometimes you have an extra 10 minutes that you didn’t plan for. Sometimes you just need a simple activity for a busy week!
I created these primary cue cards for ANY and ALL those reasons! As a singing time leader, I wanted to have some go-to activities that I could use in case an activity wasn’t going as planned.
I have used all of these cue cards at some point while serving in this calling, and I definitely have a few favorites! Hopefully these cue cards are helpful to any primary singing time leader who wants to have a few tricks up their sleeve!

What I love most about these cue cards is that they are SO easy to assemble! You just need a few basic things to make lots of different types of cue cards for primary! Here’s what I recommend:
- Popsicle Sticks (You can get 100 popsicle sticks on Amazon for cheap!)
- Copy Paper (I like to have some colored paper on hand too)
- Tape
- Scissors
4 Things! That’s it! Just 4 things that you might already have at home ready to go! I have also laminated some of my cue cards to make them last longer. If I’m in a rush, I don’t always get to it!
Most of these cue cards are circle-shaped exception of just a few cards. Just print out the cue cards in the printable later in this post, tape them to popsicle sticks, and toss them in your primary bag for singing time!
What’s great about these cue cards is that they can be used to review ANY primary song! It doesn’t matter too much if it’s a slow/fast song, or if it’s a long/short song.
When I use cue cards, the kids catch on pretty quickly. It usually just takes one run-through of the song for them to know how the activity works. After they are comfortable with the instructions, I often pick someone to come up and be the leader by holding up the cue cards.
I have included a list below of 8 different cue cards and how to use them in singing time! See which ones you might like to try with your primary!
1. Lion & Mouse
Change up the dynamics of any song with these “Lion & Mouse” cue cards! These were actually the very first cue cards I made for singing time! When you hold up the lion, have the kids sing as loud (reverently) as they can. When you switch to the mouse, see how quiet they can be!

2. Sway & Freeze
This “Freeze” cue card is such a fun way to get your primary kids up and out of these seats during singing time. Have the kids sway back and forth slowly while you sing until you have them “FREEZE!” Try this When He Comes Again Sway and Freeze for a simple example!
3. Listen & Sing
I have used my “Listen & Sing” cue cards several times in singing time! For this activity, have the group switch off singing the song and listening to the piano. 4. Red Light, Green Light
Use this fun variation of Red Light, Green Light to change the speed of the song as you sing! For these cue cards, use red, yellow, and green paper to print out 3 different cue cards! For an example of how to use this idea in singing time, check out this Kindness Begins With Me Stoplight Singing.
5. Stand & Sit
When I can tell my primary kids are starting to get antsy, I pull out my “Stand & Sit” cue cards! Have the kids stand up on key words or just randomly have them stand up and sit back down as fast as they can. This Give, Said the Little Stream Up & Down is a great example!
6. Boys & Girls
Have the boys and girls take turns singing! There are a few different ways to use this activity. One option is to having the kids move around so that all the girls are sitting on one side of the room and all the boys are on the other. Another way to play is by having everyone stay in their seats and sing when it’s their turn.
7. Right & Left
When I have just a few minutes to spare, I use my “Right & Left” cards. Have each side of the room switch off singing parts of the song. When you hold up the left arrow, have the kids on the left side of the room sing! Then, switch to the right side!
For this activity, I often add some competition and see which side of the room is singing loudest (reverently). I usually ask a leader or teacher to watch and listen to see which side has everyone singing reverently.
8. Rise & Clap
Choose a few key words in the song. Have one key word correspond with standing up and one key word correspond with clapping your hands. Add on different actions as you go! For an example of what this activity looks like, take a look at this Jesus Has Risen Rise and Clap activity.

Primary Singing Time Printable Cue Cards
