Have some fun reviewing a variety of songs as a primary. Earn tickets during singing time and exchange tickets for special prizes at the end of primary!
Super Singer Arcade Tickets for Primary!
Working together as a primary to earn a special reward can be a great motivator for reverence and participation in singing time. In addition to having fun and feeling the spirit, the kids can take a fun prize home with them!
This activity definitely does not have to cost a lot of money. The idea for this activity is just to get the kids excited for the primary program or have a fun review day during summer time.
You can find some simple, cheap prizes at the Dollar Store. Some simple ideas might include stickers, erasers, candy, small toys. You could also get a few larger ticket items like coloring books or bookmarks!
This activity can be great for any primary song you are reviewing! This can also be a really fun way to review for your upcoming primary program! Start by choosing which song(s) you’ll be reviewing during singing time.
Print out several copies of the printable arcade tickets included later in this post. I printed mine on colored paper for cute, colorful tickets! You can also grab a roll of tickets at Walmart or Dollar Tree.
At the beginning of primary, introduce the activity by showing the tickets. It’s a carnival in singing time today! Earn tickets by singing reverently, helping a friend, helping your teacher, etc.
Tell the kids that when they receive a ticket, they can simply put it in their “personal bank” under their seat. You can also have them hold the tickets if they can hold them reverently.
Begin singing! This activity can definitely be paired with another singing time activity! Just pass out tickets as you go through your normal singing time routine.
At the end of singing time, open your Super Singer Store! I’ve included a printable “menu” that includes the number of tickets and blank space to write what they can earn for each amount of tickets. Have the children come row by row to redeem their prizes. Try to encourage them to choose quickly.
There are endless possibilities with this type of activity! I would love to hear what you come up with and how you use this idea in singing time! I’ve also included some extension activities below that may spark some ideas!
*As a note on prizes in general, I like to lean on the side of generosity when it comes to rewards in primary. I always want kids to leave primary feeling happy and excited to share what they learned.
Extension Activities:
- Instead of having kids earn tickets individually, earn them as a class! Each time you feel that the class sang exceptionally well or practiced reverence, put a ticket in the jar. Once you earn a certain number of tickets, have a special reward for the class. You can use this idea across multiple weeks!
- Play one of our competition games! This Guess What’s Next game is a good example of a class competition activity. Have each class earn tickets as points. The class with the most tickets wins a prize!
- Create a carnival-themed singing time activity to go along with your tickets! Some examples might include a bean bag toss, balloon pop, or spin the wheel!
- Write on some of the tickets randomly to add an element of surprise! Some ideas for things to write might include: Choose the next song, Pick a silly action, Lead the song, etc.
